PROJECT BRIEF

This multi-format print project explores the power of typography, layout, and editorial design across three distinct deliverables: a newspaper front page, a 3-fold travel brochure, and an art event poster. Each piece was developed to simulate real-world applications of print media, combining aesthetic structure with functional clarity.

The goal was to understand how typographic hierarchy, grid systems, and visual flow influence how audiences read and retain information. From capturing the energy of a national Olympic celebration to guiding tourists through New York City and promoting a cultural event, the project showcases the versatility of type-driven storytelling across various print formats.

New York City Brochure 3 Fold Travel Guide

Objective: Create a compact, tourist-friendly brochure that introduces NYC’s culture, attractions, and tips.

Focus Areas:

  • Used consistent type pairings and color coding for each panel (attractions, transportation, food, shopping, safety, etc.).

  • Organized content to flow logically as the brochure unfolds.

  • Integrated icons, QR code, and visual landmarks to simulate real brochure usability.

  • Balanced text-heavy sections with imagery and whitespace for easy readability.

Result: A professional 3-fold brochure that combines typographic clarity with visual appeal—delivering concise travel information in a design-forward format.

NYIT Visiting Artist Lecture Series (Cooper Hewitt)

Objective: Design a poster for an NYC-based museum (Cooper Hewitt) event highlighting video, performance, and interdisciplinary art. Design a new look for Cooper Hewitt logo.

Focus Areas:

  • Employed type-only layouts to emphasize form, spacing, and composition.

  • Used an editorial grid and alternating font weights for contrast.

  • Focused on balance and visual rhythm instead of heavy imagery, making the typography itself the hero.

Result:
A clean, sophisticated poster design that highlights schedule, artist names, and themes without overwhelming the viewer suitable for gallery and institutional use.

Newspaper Design

Tokyo Olympics 2020 Victory (India)

Objective: Design a compelling front page layout announcing a major national sports achievement.

Focus Areas:

  • Established a modular grid system to mimic a real newspaper's structure.

  • Used bold, serif typefaces for headlines to create immediate impact.

  • Implemented hierarchy through column flow, subheadings, pull quotes, and body text alignment.

  • Included high-contrast imagery and precise captioning to simulate a journalistic tone.

Result:
A clean and energetic front page that not only celebrates the Olympic wins but also teaches typographic balance and structure suited to real-world editorial design.

WHY?

This project was part of my exploration into print media design, where I aimed to understand how visual hierarchy, typography, and layout influence information accessibility and audience engagement. I wanted to recreate the experience of designing for real-world formats like newspapers, brochures, and posters while experimenting with editorial composition and public communication strategies.

The newspaper front page focused on editorial storytelling, highlighting Indian athletes’ victories at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The brochure, on the other hand, was crafted to emulate an official NYC tourism guide, combining practical information with a visually engaging format suitable for travelers.

IMPACT

This project enhanced my understanding of how print design demands clarity, balance, and intentional content flow. It taught me how to create visually structured layouts that are informative, easy to navigate, and visually appealing. The process also helped me fine-tune my skills in combining typography with visual cues to guide the reader’s attention while keeping the aesthetics aligned with the purpose—be it informational, celebratory, or promotional.
